Since I have been messing with whatever I have been using to write blog posts, I have ignored Ask the Darcy things, so if you have sent something, please send it again! I have no idea where they went!
But I do have this one that I failed to answer quite awhile ago.
“What did you want to be when you grew up when you were a kid? I am guessing it was weird (in a nice way)”
Thank you for specifying that I am weird in a nice way! I take that as a compliment. And yeah, it was weird. I wanted to be a dog. That lasted much longer than I should probably admit, I was probably about 12 when I realized I would never be a dog.
Then I wanted to be a journalist or writer of some sort.
Then I wanted to be a lawyer.
Then I wanted to be a forensic psychologist in the FBI. That’s the one I really wanted to do in the end, but I realized I would not be able to handle the level of education that would require, so that’s when I stopped with a BA in Psychology and got the first job that offered health insurance, at a bookstore.
Now, of course, I work in customer service in insurance, and I think really that all leads me back to psychology, which I still love and read a lot about. I like the parts where I work directly with people who are struggling with something, and I help them; or when I help someone look at things from a different perspective.
I realize I am 45, but I still have a “What to do when I grow up” thing, and I think I would like to be an expert in customer service – not just at doing it, but teaching it, too.
